it’s hard to be the best

we had another sand vb league at work...and Shibby won again.  it sure is fun to play with these peeps, but now that other teams and coworkers are cheering against us, it's a little rougher.  as JJ said, "no one likes the Yankees."

adventures in cooking - may

i kinda/sorta failed this month....but i can rationalize almost anything, so here we go!

brandyive showed me how to make better pasta sauce than what comes in the Ragu can.  it was superduper tasty and i know i could handle it on my own.  it'll happen soon...

i started making my own coffee at home.  this is my true 'adventure in cooking' for May.  roommate has a little coffee pot i use...and i have tons of coffee beans...and every pot gets tastier.  a couple saturdays ago i made some brown water that had to be thrown out after i hit the road...but starbucks saved the day.

and bro, i'm workin' on drinkin' it black.

a memory

during the Spelling Bee Qualifier in fifth grade, i purposefully spelled some words wrong...just so i wouldn't have to go on stage in front of everyone.

i don't know if i would have made it, but i made dang sure there was no chance.

oh, how growing up has changed me.

post-vacation hangover

(i stole this phrase from JG)

you know what i'm talking about.  that 'regular life ain't as fun as vacation' funk you gotta fight when you return from a great getaway.  it's rough.

i was only in santa cruz, and it was only two days, but it was awesome to get away and have a great time with fabulous people.

theory on the air guitar

at the Santa Cruz Blues Festival on saturday, i decided that the air guitar is the white man's answer to dancing.   rhythm ain't the white man's thing...but many can play the we play the air guitar.  i watched many a white man strum his air guitar while listening to some awesome music.

start of the greatest summer ever!

friday - happy hour & girls' night out
saturday - santa cruz blues fest
sunday - santa cruz bbq & beach bonfire
monday - bbq & volleyball

attempt at a deep thought on a friday afternoon

sometimes, friendships are tough.

people disappoint.  people don't always do the right thing.  people don't always know how to say what they want to say.  sometimes people just don't know better.  people learn and grow throughout life, and sometimes life hands 'em lemons that don't make lemonade.  (yay for a cliche)

i'm one of these people.  i fully accept that.  my latest idea has been that people are "messy."  we choose which messes we try to clean up...and we choose which friends we want, despite their messes.  and we hope that those friends accept our messes.

this is also part of "love without expectation."  if i truly love without expectation, i accept the messes my friends have.  i love them for who they are.  but at what point do i draw the line and decide that those messes are messin' me up too much?  i'm not good at determining that.  part of me thinks it's a good thing - 'cause i can accept people for who they are.  part of me thinks it ain't so good - 'cause they may be bringin' me down.

a riddle

I shouldn't admit this, but this is the first time I got a riddle...ever:

You grasp my handle and give me a push.
I rotate and roll, doing my job.
You put pressure on me,
and I cause division.
Then you enjoy the fruits of my labor,
while I lie, cast aside, feeling cheesy and red of face.

ah, joe mauer

really, he just seems like a solid guy.  seriously.  i watched a special on him when i was in minnesota and there's not much bad you can say about him.

and extra tv now calls him America's Most Eligible Bachelor.

my summer good thing

i think i'm gonna volunteer at a College Summit for a weekend this summer.  my company sent out an email looking for volunteers, i clicked on the link and it sounds like a great opportunity.  i want to be a Writing Coach, as it seems to be the easiest way to break in.  i think i know grammar well enough - even if i don't use it in this blog.

i haven't looked too closely into this whole thing, but i talk to them next week and will find out more.  plus, i can continue to peruse their website.

bon jovi & american idol

i will always be in love with him.  always.

so he was on american idol.  and because of tivo, i've kept up with american idol this season.  being able to fast forward through most of it is valuable.  anyway, jbj did awesome with 'em, it was fun to hear his songs and i agree with the voting...for the most part.  i think blake is my favorite...but that's not my final answer.

i got my pinky back!!!  Hot Doctor was pleased with my progress and i only have to wear the bracey thing at night and when i play volleyball.  he flat out asked me if i've been playing, so i had to be honest, but he wasn't surprised.

unfortunately, i'll never see him again...but dreams i do have.

two minutes

i can't concentrate on much of anything for two full minutes, and i think that may be a problem.  i had to go to the dentist yesterday, so i tried really hard to brush my teeth until the alarm deal went off...which is two minutes...but i lost focus and was spitting before i realized i hadn't made it.  unreal.

i tried again this morning and failed.
