blood pressure & baseball

i have a feeling my blood pressure will be increasing throughout the month of september as the Twins close in on the wild card.

i have big plans for my cube during the playoff season, assuming they make it. if you have no other reason to cheer for the Twins, this should be enough. pics will be posted.

end of summer

hard to believe it's august 31. with school starting, it sure feels like the end of summer. thankfully, my summer was out of control fun " chaotic, so it feels kinda nice to get back to a somewhat normal pace...i realized that last nite while talking to a classmate.

there are four months left to get new year's resolutions taken care of...i'm set to run my half-marathon on october 29, which i think was my only resolution, so i'm good. i started aggressively paying off my debt last spring, so that also helps. i think i'm doing ok in 2006. it's been a very trying year, which means tons of personal growth. always a good thing.

here's to a great fall " start of winter! (and here's to another couple months of summer clothes 'cause i live in the Bay Area)

direction of the blog

for a few weeks i've been trying to figure out what to do with this blog...it's become more of an update on my life than anything, and i don't think that's where i want it to go. i mean, it's cool when i show up in minnesota " everyone already knows everything about me while i know very little of them, but...

a brief history of hegman.com/weblog:
my first post - i became more techy
direction #1 - california vs minnesota
direction #2 - historical events that still make me laugh
direction #3 - kristie-isms
direction #4 - announcements
direction #5 - random links
and on and on and on...

i think i want to keep it a mix, while posting less about my life. i'd love to be one of those sought-after bloggers with words of wisdom pouring out from everywhere...i'd love to get "deeper" more often...i'd love to be one of those thinkers i admire so much...but i gotta take me for who i am - a random mix of it all. i like to believe words of wisdom " honesty flow from me often enough to make this blog worth it. here, here, to blogging!

(i forgot to use the word 'uber')

camels

hegman: "the world needs more camels"
burgey: "what would we do with them?"
hegman: "i dunno. maybe we don't need 'em...but i sure love 'em"

visits, school, money, my car & uber

i love it when people come to visit me. it's great to show off this uberfabulous area in which i live. i do have to admit, however, that it's nice to get back to a normal routine and sleep in my own bed again. i'm exhausted...even though it was a fairly mellow weekend.

my second class looks to be ok. Quantitative Decision Making, i think it's called. it'll be a lot of work, but as long as i keep up with the uberhomework, it should flow smoothly (according to previous students, anyway). plus, he let us out at 7:20 instead of 8:45 tonite. i love that.

september is officially Spend No Money Month. i've been on an uberspending rampage with no budget to back it. oy vey. i hate how this can completely ruin my mood and almost send me into a depressoin. luckily, i KNOW i can handle a budget, and will force my 'fly by the seat of my pants' spirit to stick to it.

i'm addicted to washing my car. i got home at 7:45 " went to town on Pitter. she looks ubersparkly clean.

"uber" is the word of the week. i've enjoyed using it...you should try, too!

happy 2 year to me!

yesterday was my two year anniversary with california! woooooooo!
hard to believe it's been two years already, and hard to believe it's only been two years. ya know that feeling???

i hit the oakland zoo, which was supercool...and an A's game. i was a Bobby Kielty fan...otherwise, cheered for good baseball, of which there was plenty. 'twas a fun game.

further notes on Murray

i am 100% not ready to have a child, or anyone/thing i am completely responsible for. today burgey " i took murray along with us to the beach. i'm quite selfish and was tempted to get annoyed with the amount of work that went into this. (luckily, i'm old enough to catch myself " not get annoyed)

first of all, becki helped me pack up all his supplies - a water bowl, leashes, toys and treats. then i had to find a blanket to cover my back seat with, as i'm still allergic to murray " don't want his hair floating around my car. we drove to the beach, all the while having to watch him to make sure he didn't do anything stupid. i got whacked in the face with a tail once. we pulled up at the beach, which said it took leashed dogs online, to find out they didn't allow dogs until 4pm. so we walked around a bit " decided to drive up the coast. after 15 miles, we found a beach that allowed dogs. yay! we walked down the cliff with murray " hung out for a couple hours. i got to watch murray run full speed as he came at me " plowed me over, so that was exciting....and we played around a bit. and i got some homework done. 'twas a good day.

all this to say: i have the most low maintenance dog around, yet still want to whine about how he ties me down if/when i bring him anywhere. i'm the most selfish single person in the world...and, really, i'm ok with that. i have two other roommies " good friends who want to pitch in to care for murray, too.

my dog has it made

he gets to run full speed ahead on the beaches of California...just for fun. i'm jealous of the way he gets to grow up. i ran full speed ahead through the trees of northern minnesota.

back to school

i have the Billy Madison song in my head about going back to school...it's kinda fun.

unfortunately, it may be a bit of a challenge to get into classes. seems i took the super-irresponsible route this summer " chose to ignore payment deadlines, so my classes were dropped from my schedule. this was all after missing a couple registration deadlines. obviously, i'm not too enthusiastic about school.

however, my head is back on straight " i'm ready to go....besides the notebook shopping i must do at lunch. i've found two classes i can take that still have room for me, and i gave the professors a heads-up that i'd be dropping in to add the class. hopefully the professors go for it " i can roll with the semester.

i'll be taking Financial Management, which builds off of Accounting (ack!!!) and a Managerial Decisions class. should be a-ok. wish me luck!

luv

i fell in luv with Channing Tatum while watching Step Up yesterday. the boy is just yummy. and, upon further research, i discovered he's 26, which isn't bad, and was 4th in last season's So You Think You Can Dance.

he's made my top five...which is rounded out by Joshy Hotnett, Matthew McConaughey, Vin Diesel and one to be determined.

oh - the movie was a great, mindless, teenybopper flick. pretty bad plot, but awesome dancing

it's gonna be a great weekend! the families are both fabulously fun, friends are a-plenty and the wine will be flowing. plus, bill " sarah are perfect for each other. i love going to weddings to see a marriage made that will last...

real live preacher

i sometimes swing by the RLP's blog to see what's new, and the latest was a good read for me. for the past few years i've struggled more with my faith than ever...still holding on, but not absolutely sure why. faith = taking that step, and i take it.

growing up, i was sold out 100%. i truly was an angel child, giving my parents a fairly easy ride through high school. the past few years of digging in, trying to get to the bottom of my faith, have been awesome for me...but it always comes down to my heart " gut...i can't deny God because my heart " gut tell me He's for real...and i trust my heart " gut.

Murray Rules: Reason #1

when i woke up this morning, i decided i wasn't going to go for a run. it's an optional day for my half-marathon training, so i was going to option out.

as soon as i opened my bedroom door, Murray was in my face, wagging his tail. he pointed his nose towards the door, knowing i'd understand.

i put on my running clothes " shoes, and we went for a quick one. it was a great way to start the day.

couple discrimination

i think i discriminate against couples.

society makes it a little tough to be single, so i've felt discriminated against in the past...some of my friends who are coupled off made it obvious when events were couples-only...it's easier to hang in couples once you are one...guys like to hang with guys, girls like to hang with girls, so when there's an even mix, it's easier...blah, blah, blah.

this morning i realized that i don't call my coupled-off friends as much as i call my single friends, and i sometimes don't invite couples 'cause i think they'll be uncomfortable. i'm discriminating.

i'm gonna work on this somehow. perhaps more events where couplehood doesn't matter?

sinus cold

every summer one of the fourteen members of my family has a cold amd spreads it to the rest of us by the end of the trip...i will not forget this next year.

on a positive note, i've discovered that sudafed has done a much better job of battling my sinuses than tylenol cold " sinus was doing. go sudafed!

brilliant quote

this is on the website of one of my potential future professor's:
"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt." Bertrand Russell

but don't let this make you hesitate on being cocksure...
;-)

bad procrastinator

i am a bad procrastinator. i may claim i'm a procrastinator, and i generally work best under deadlines...but i get all stressed out about whatever it is days before it's due...because i know it's due " i procrastinate.

recent example:
i'm in charge of games for the bachelorette party this weekend. i told nicole several times over that i'd get them done, but it'd be last minute...because that's how i work. however, i've been stressing for at least three days about how i'd procrastinate on this game planning, and then the games wouldn't live up to the bride's expectations. i got it all planned out last nite - two days in advance.

i'm a bad procrastinator.

sheesh

How to make a kristie

House of Falafel

I just had yummy falafels for lunch...I'd been told of this great falafel shop just down the street from work, and finally made it in. i was pointed in the right direction...it was a fabulous falafel plate.

the joint even played the music i used to rock out to while shopping " eating in Israel for that semester. good memories.

unfortunately, i've also been watching my old stompin' grounds be torn up, thrown around " bombed away on tv. why can't we all just get along?

my word

i'm still thinkin' about it...apparently, "random" is too negative. i have to agree with that...negativity ain't in my bag.
back to the drawing board...
