school

school starts tonight! this semester i'm trying to squeeze in two classes, which means two nights are booked from 6 - 9pm. i'm more stressed about finding social time for friends than i am the actual classes...is that ok? they're both entry-level, and i've had a form of them in undergrad - accounting " management. i've been told they're fairly easy.

i'm also going to get homework this semester, it's almost guaranteed. i started off this MBA thing with a class that required two days of studying before the midterm " final. i want that back.

all that said, i'm very excited to use my new orange " pink notebooks with the matching pens. school shopping rules.

logic for your weekend

parking

i just heard on the news that i could park closer to the plant if i worked at Ford. sweet.

personally, i think it's brilliant of Ford to do this. if they're building the cars, they should drive 'em. is it fair? i'm not so sure. at least they're affordable cars. if it were Porsche, they may have to offer some serious discounts.

i’ve been holding it in all week…

...but i just want to say i bought a Ford last year. i did my part to help. it's a bummer Pitter " i connecting is not enough.

lunch

my favorite lunch out here is Pho Hoa. 'tis super yummy soup, and i get to play with different sauces to make it yummier.

we didn't have things like this in minnesota.

sleep

i had one of those dreams last night where i get up " go through my day...and then when you wake up, it kinda sucks 'cause you already went through the day. fortunately, by the time i actually woke up today, i'd gone back to sleep already (in my dream).

it's like i got two nights of sleep in one!

caught off-guard

i was completely caught off-guard this morning when i got into my car " turned the wipers on...it was pretty much solid ice. i'm so spoiled i haven't even looked at the weather lately, so i had no idea it was getting this cold at night. dang! good thing a few minutes of wiper fluid " heat took care of it, and i never had to get out of my car.

but then i got to work " walked in with a coworker all bundled up in her winter coat. i've got a long sleeve t-shirt on. i may never fit in out here...

comments

so a cool comment appeared on my blog right before christmas from a hegman in europe. (herman, if you're reading...hi!)

i just did a quick search, and found this.

i wish i knew more about my ancestry. unfortunately, my dad doesn't know a whole lot, so all i've ever gotten is that his family came over from Finland long ago, and my last name means "mule skinner."

little things, continued

this morning i sat in my chair at work and thought, "wow, this chair is really comfy. i forgot about that over the weekend. makes it easier to be here."

little things make my day more often than break it. :-)
(isn't it fun to be in my head?)

little things

in general, the little things in life make my day. having mountains " beautiful blue sky ahead of me as i drive to work, being hot in a sweater while outside on january 12, getting a funny joke in my email, a wink from my man...they all make my day.

however, today a little thing is grating on me. in my building, the badge readers are all on the left. i worked hard to get into the habit of putting my badge on my left pocket to make life easier. now that i've gotten that taken care of, i realized the badge readers in the other buildings are on the right. suddenly, life is difficult again. depending on the building i enter, my badge is best on the left or right. there's no way i can reach consistency here.

i'll shush now. life is still good.

commas

i use too many commas. in IM, in email, online...too many commas. i'm a comma whore. for that matter, i probably use too many "...'s", too. oh, well.

i am going to make an effort to use less commas, though.

coolest family in the world

famforweb.jpg
yeah, we're awesome. and, yeah, steve made the family picture with me. he's awesome, too. :-)

damn stoplights

i live 7 miles from work. unfortunately, that entire 7 miles is street roads with stop lights. it can take up to 25 minutes to get to work if the lights play it right, which is very frustrating.

my company also likes to have 8:00am meetings. it's dang near impossible to get to an 8am meeting on time when i have to fight stoplights.

this morning i was that moron that speeds from stoplight to stoplight, getting no further than the smart one who cruises from one to the next.

volleyball team questionnaire

i had my new 14's team fill out a simple questionnaire...basic questions about their best skill in vb, areas that can be improved, favorites, etc...here are some of my favorite answers (remember, they're 13 years old):

What is your favorite warm up song?
I dont have a favorite because I dont even no any
because i have never been on a club volleyball team
before but, I am looking forward to learning some.

Is there anything else you want me to know about you:
Well, i am a 2nd degree blackbelt. I particapate in
school activities such as sports. I am also on the
student council. i get 1st honors for my grades and
lowest being a B+ or an A-. BUT MOST OF ALL I LUV
VOLLEYBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! need i say
more? I am very excited to play for eclipse cause i
chose over others cuz i knew that u could give me a
challenge and push me to become the best. the coaches
are nice and athletic which is a good role model for
me to always no to keep in shape, practice , and even
to practice more. But most importantly to believe that
i can be my best not anyone elses best but my personal
best. that is why i decided to do volleyball cuz i
would pick it over everything else......

favorite hobby: ski, karate,VOLLEYBALL, biking, public
speaking,VOLLEYBALL typing, soccer,VOLLEYBALL
listening to music, shopping, talking on the phone
with my friends, hanging with my girl and guy
friends,VOLLEYBALL chatting on IM with my friends,
having sleep overs, reading books,VOLLEYBALL helping
out at my karate school as an instructor, and like ya
VOLLEYBALL.

Is there anything else you want me to know?
I love volleyball, I haven’t played in a month or two but as soon as I get the hang of it things will be fine! I also really like constructive criticism, because it is what helps me improve.

What is your favorite warm-up song? A: There are warm-up songs? I didn't know that... Um, yah, so I don't have a favorite warm-up song.

Favorite music: I like just about all types excpet heavy metal. I hate heavy metal.

vikings new coach

quick! since i have no other Vikings fans to get opinions from out here, i need a response to those who ask me how i feel about the new coach...what do we think, peeps?

(confession of the day - in minnesota, i merely listened to one conversation " carried that info into the next so i sounded really sporty " smart...it doesn't work out here 'cause there's no one to listen to. of course, i actually watched some " had my own opinions once in a while, but a majority of my info came this way)

minnesota brain…continued

i had thought i was adjusted back to cali life...

as i was waiting for my chinese take-out, i read the menu. on the back, it said, "we're pleased to be serving over 10 states in the southwest," or something of that nature. immediately, i thought, "but i'm in the midwest...i wonder when they expanded, and why haven't they updated this menu?"

after a few confusing seconds, i realized i live in california. oy.

confession

i stole my Theme of 2006:

Attitude
by Charles Swindoll
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitudes."

Theme of 2006

Life is 90% attitude.

(i'm sure there are more resolutions to come, but this is my starting point)

first practice

i'll be coaching the first practice of the season tomorrow night, and need an ice breaker to do with the team. just a quickie, get to know ya, somethin'...if volleyball is involved, it's great, but not necessary.
